Ask Haley: Why isn’t my location showing up in search engines with the right address?

A: First off – I’m happy that you are making sure your information is being correctly displayed on Google, Bing and Yahoo! When your information is correct, it makes it easy for prospective clients and job seekers to find your site. When it is incorrect, it may drive customers away to a competitor, because they can’t find your location, and even worse, it looks like you lack professionalism by not updating your contact info (whether it’s your fault or Google’s).

Luckily, it’s not an incredibly difficult thing to do. What you need to do is to check the search result for your name. Just type in my company in the search bar and see what comes up. If you haven’t registered for a Google+ Local page or a Bing Business (Yahoo! uses Bing’s information too) portal page; please register your business now. This is a great opportunity to let a search engine index exactly what you put down as your address and information. Your next step is to verify your website to your Google+ page (or Bing Portal Page) and send yourself a letter with a pin number to verify that you are the owner of your site, at the location that is listed, so that not just anyone can change your info. Fill in the information that is relevant to your business and there you have it!
