Site SEO: Search Engine Optimization Techniques

In my last post (SEO for Staffing Websites and Recruiters – PART I), I discussed what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is, and why it’s important to staffing firms and recruiters. For this post, I’ll offer some insight into where you start with optimizing your staffing and recruiting website.

Step 1: Define your staffing firm’s SEO goals

  • Are you looking to drive more traffic to your recruiting website from job candidates looking for work?
  • Are you interested in attracting the attention of companies in your area looking for a new staffing vendor or recruiting partner?
  • Do you simply want people to be able to find your company by name?

Step 2: Brainstorm staffing and recruiting keywords

Once you’ve answered the questions above, begin brainstorming all the possible keywords and search strings people may be using.

If you’re looking to recruit more candidates, your keyword list might include:
– Jobs in [your city]
– Careers in [your city]

If you’re looking to attract more business, your keyword list might include:
– Staffing firms in [your city]
– Recruiters in [your city]
– Temp agencies in [your city]

The key thing to remember when generating your keyword list is to think of your audience. How would the general population refer to the services you offer? You may feel the terms “Temp Staffing” and “Employment Agency” are outdated, but the fact of the matter is people are still using these as search strings.

And if you’re having trouble generating keywords, Google offers a helpful keyword generation tool.

Step 3: Refine your keywordsTake a look through your competitors’ websites to see what keywords they are using.  In your Internet Browser go to “View” then select “Source” to view their Meta Data.  Here you can search for code starting with meta name=”keywords”.  Here is an example from the Haley Marketing homepage:

meta name=”keywords” content=”Haley Marketing, staffing, recruiting, marketing for staffing, advertising for staffing, websites, direct mail, newsletters, e-newsletters, logos, postcards”

In this example, we include our company name and search phrases people may be using to find marketing support for their staffing agency.
