Facebook Wants You to Vote on its Policies!

Share this:

Facebook is proposing a change to their Statement of Rights and Responsibilities… and they actually want you to vote on it! A company governed by its users is rare and it’s giving you a chance to weigh in on their process. The voting ends on December 10, 2012 at 12:00 pm (PST), so let’s get to what this is all about.

After talking about the great opportunity to be able to vote on a massive company’s policies; that is actually one of the items on the chopping block. In fact, if they don’t get enough votes (30% of 1 billion users – no small order) they will only take the vote under advisement, and implement whatever they wanted to anyways.  There are other items that are voted on, such as Facebook being able to share user data with their affiliates, including Instagram, and setting new filters for your mailbox. They will also clarify who can see what on your timeline and will be changing how they refer to certain products. If you would like more information about the proposed updates, you may see them in Facebook’s own words.

All of these changes are of course bundled, so you aren’t able to vote on any particular item… just like a bill in congress 🙂 , and the information about this is very difficult to find, as well as the links to actually vote, so I will just give you them in one convenient spot, just below. (Also, please log into Facebook to be able to vote).

Proposed updates.

Vote.

While I am not one to engage in politics, I do encourage you to at least look at the policy, as a member of this large digital community and cast your vote, so that you have a chance to vote again in the future. Especially those people that complain about Facebook and their policies (You know who you are 🙂 ).
