When creating a social media strategy, it’s important to have a strong presence on all of the major social platforms related to the staffing and recruiting industry. While there are many platforms out there that aren’t a great fit in our industry, don’t overlook the top platform that can impact your business.

Google+ is a platform that some industries will find more success in over others. For example, we find that people in the IT industry tend to be more active on Google+ than on some of the other social sites.

Creating a Google+ Page

If you do not have a verified Google+ listing, it’s time to get started. Follow Google’s instructions for creating a local page to represent your company on Google. And don’t just stop there – follow this process through to the end to ensure that your local business page is verified (this is an important SEO ranking factor, discussed below).

Sharing Content on Google+

As you create content on your blog, share it on Google+. You can share it on the company page, on your personal profile, and in communities.

No matter where on Google+ you are sharing, you will want to include text explaining the value of the content, any images associated with the content, and a URL linking back to the content on your website. You can share updates on the company page, if you are a page manager.

To share in Google+ Communities, you must first join these communities. To start: On the left-hand side of Google+, you will see a drop down menu; select communities, and begin searching. Do a search for groups related to your industry and geography, and begin sharing. Don’t be shy — participating in conversations around content shared by others is a great way to build your online reputation!

Google+ is Important for SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is another reason we recommend utilizing Google+ in your social strategy. While search engine rankings take many social factors into consideration, Google+ is an especially important social ranking factor. When users “+1” (the equivalent of “liking” on Facbeook) a piece of content, this is a signal to Google that your content is relevant and others are interacting with it, which helps influence Google to show the content in search results.

While Google+ isn’t the most commonly talked about social platform in the staffing and recruiting industry, it is one you don’t want to overlook.
