How Low Does Matt Lozar Go?

Share this:

By day, we’re marketing geeks. Computer nerds. Quirky writers and artists. And damn proud of it!

But after hours, our team members shed their marketing capes – and pursue all kinds of cool Hobbies, Interests and Talents (we call them HITs for short).

When Matt Lozar, a Haley Marketing Social Media Marketing Advisor, isn’t linking clients’ blog posts to their social media accounts, he likes to hit links of a different kind:

HIT: Playing Golf

Back Story

I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years. I took my first lesson when I was just 10 and played through high school (admittedly not very well). After taking a break during college (hey, golf is expensive!), I picked the sport back up when I graduated and have been addicted to it ever since.

Why do I enjoy golf?

Besides the obvious attractions of fresh air, spending time with friends or colleagues, and the beauty of a manicured course, I really love the goal-setting aspect of golf.

Golf is the ultimate game that will humble you, quickly! You can think you have everything figured out with your golf swing or the golf course you’re playing, but one bad round can leave you questioning your abilities – and make you want to give up the game forever.

For me, there’s always something that I can learn or improve with my golf game. I always look forward to setting my next golfing goal – and I really enjoy the work that goes into achieving it, and that’s why I also use equipment as a mevo launch monitor to keep a track on my golf progress and improvements.

Stories shared on the 19th Hole:

When you play golf for a long time, there are shots and rounds that you remember for the rest of your life. Here are three of my favorites:

  • Holing out from 175 yards out as a senior in high school for eagle, but not seeing it because the shot was directly into the setting sun. I didn’t believe my buddy when he said it went in the hole!
  • Taking seven shots to finish the 18th hole, when I need six or fewer shots on the par-4 to break 80 for the first time in my life. I literally hit my drive 50 yards into a creek I was so nervous… I learned from that experience and was able to break 80 (finally) two years later.
  • Tying my career low in the first round of the club championship but then not being able to overcome the nerves in the second round and finishing fourth.

I said golf can humble you quickly!
