But after hours, our team members shed their marketing capes – and pursue all kinds of cool Hobbies, Interests and Talents (we call them HITs for short).
Here’s what Magezi Mukandala, Haley Marketing’s Technical Sales Support Specialist, is into:
I have appreciated beautiful photography as far back as I can remember. My father also enjoyed photography, and he encouraged me when he saw my interest in it.
I dabbled in the hobby during college, but I could not afford the film to support it. Thankfully, digital cameras came around and let me practice and experiment with photography on a budget.
I started to move towards professional photography in 2008 and got my start in wedding photography.
Right now, my biggest passion is my (growing) family. My enjoyment of photography has fueled that passion, helping me appreciate the moments I spend with my wife and children even more. I look at them and I see more than I could ever capture in a photograph.
When I get more free time and get back behind the lens, I plan to specialize in working with expectant moms and babies.
What do I love most about photography?
Isolating and exposing the extraordinary from within the mundane.
Most of us never have a historically unique moment in our lives, but we all have moments that are personally relevant. That relevancy is special, and photography allows me to articulate and share this in a visceral way.
My passion for photography has also helped me see the beauty in ordinary moments. Life is exquisite when you are behind a lens and vibrant when you retain and learn to see the world through that perspective. You can’t help but feel blessed and see those around you as inherently valuable and special in their own right. This helps me have a generally positive outlook on my life.
My favorite photography memory…
…is also my earliest.
When I was about 15, I vividly remember my dad handing me his camera during a trip to Zanzibar. It is my first memory of him encouraging my interest in photography. He handed me the camera and took the time to show me how it operated. I specifically recall him showing me how the manual focus worked and letting me buy as much film as I wanted.
The photos from that trip are some of my favorites.
