By day, we’re marketing geeks. Computer nerds. Quirky writers and artists. And damn proud of it!
But after hours, our team members shed their marketing capes – and pursue all kinds of cool Hobbies, Interests and Talents (we call them HITs for short).
Here’s how Darlene Nicosia, a Haley Marketing Administrative Specialist, gives back, when she’s not giving her all to our team:
HIT: Plasma Donor
Back Story
I’m type O negative blood (which just 9% of the U.S. population has), so I’ve donated for years. More recently, however, I’ve switched to donating plasma.
Why do I love donating plasma?
There’s a real need for O negative blood plasma.
Because of my blood type, I’m considered a “universal donor” – meaning that my plasma is especially valuable to newborns who need transfusions. For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to know that every time I donate, I can save 30 babies’ lives.
When I donate…
…I’m typically in a room with several other people who have also taken time out of their day to do the same thing. When I look around, I’m reminded that other people in this world care as much as I do about making a difference in others’ lives – and it’s a great feeling.
