Does Your Haley Marketing Project Manager Stress Eat?

Let’s get right to the point. The answer is yes. Yes we do. With a giant bowl of chocolate outside of our offices well within our reach, what exactly do we go for? I have been paying attention for the past couple of weeks and it turns out that PMs are not the biggest candy eaters in the company. Turns out, we all actually eat fairly healthy lunches and snacks.

Don’t Stress! Check out our Philosophy!

Here’s some tips for healthy snacks to increase your productivity and keep your waistline where you want it to be:

Almonds
Almonds can actually help you increase focus. Almonds are small and easy to store in your purse or pocket. The protein in almonds can help curb your appetite without causing you to feel sluggish. Try taking some to your next marathon meeting to help get you through it.

Green Tea
I might be the biggest tea drinker of all the project managers. I drink tea all day – but I do mix it up. I drink mostly caffeine-free tea and other teas loaded with antioxidants. OK, technically tea is not a snack, but it’s still a good idea. Some of the benefits of green tea include: keeping you awake (it’s a caffeine-packed coffee alternative). It also contains an amino acid called L-theanine that improves focus, reduces anxiety and helps the brain stay alert.

Dark Chocolate
If you must go to the giant bowl of chocolate, choose the dark chocolate treats. I recently joked with our receptionist about feeling OK with my choice to have some chocolate because I went with the dark chocolate Milky Way. I was joking, but really it’s true. The magnesium found in chocolate helps relieve stress and anxiety, helps improve heart health and offers some cancer prevention.

Here’s some FREE stuff to chew on!

Yogurt and Granola
This is good as a morning snack or even a late afternoon snack as it can help curb hunger and sugar cravings. Depending on the type of yogurt you choose, you may also benefit from probiotics that help keep your gut in balance.

Carrots and Hummus
This is a favorite of mine, though it seems I may not always have both to pack in my lunch at the same time. Luteolin (found in carrots) can help improve your memory, while hummus contains Omega 3 fatty acids and amino acids which can help boost your mood. Hummus also packs lots of protein and calories that help curb your hunger longer to get through those long meetings.

While I’m no expert, I am pleased that my two weeks of spying on my co-workers snacking habits yielded good results. I enjoy the people I work with and am glad they make good decisions to keep themselves mentally and physically healthy. So if Haley’s project managers aren’t eating all the candy, who is…?
