The Road Map to Social Media Success: Social Media Resolutions

Share this:

With a new year upon us, what can we do on social media to be more effective in 2018 than we were in 2017?

Establishing Social Media Resolutions

Resolution 1: Focus on Your Business Goals

In Part 1 of the Road Map to Social Media Success I discussed the importance of identifying your goals.

What is your staffing firm trying to accomplish in 2018 and how can you use social media to ultimately reach those goals? Are you aiming to generate more applications in 2018? What about client retention and expansion?

Don’t focus on specific tactics. Don’t focus on generating more likes or more engagement on Facebook. Instead, think about the end goal, your end destination. What are you trying to accomplish and how can you leverage social media as a tool to ultimately get there?

Throughout this series I’ve shared a familiar quote from Jay Baer, but it’s important to remember “The goal is not to be good at social media. The goal is to be good at business because of social media.”

Resolution 2: Try New Tactics on Social Media

While we ultimately want to focus on our goals in 2018, I encourage you to try new and exciting tactics on social media this year.

If you’ve been blogging for a while, how can you begin to leverage video within your marketing strategy?

What role can infographics, Slideshares, podcasts or imagery play in your 2018 social media initiatives?

Think for a minute about how you educate yourself on the local news.

Maybe you read the paper every morning as it’s delivered to you, or maybe you watch the morning report while drinking your coffee as you wake up.

For some, it might be more efficient to listen to the radio on the morning commute. A fourth option? Following local news sites on Twitter or Facebook to stay current on breaking news as it’s happening.

How you learn about the local news is exactly like how a potential job seeker wants to learn about the ways to improve their job search.

For some, reading a 350-500 word article is the preferred way to become more educated on the interview process or how to better showcase skills and qualifications on a resume. Some applicants cringe at the thought of reading another article and would rather see these tips in a short 30-second video.

The point?

If you’re not creating resources for job seekers or potential clients that fill all media forms, you’re missing a massive opportunity. You missing out on the hundreds or thousands of applicants that aren’t getting your message simply because it’s in a form that doesn’t capture their attention.

Resolution 3: Track Everything…And Trust the Data

When you look at Google Analytics or the insights dashboards within a specific social platform, develop an understanding of what is most successful.

I am incredibly passionate about trying new ideas and tactics on social media but, it’s important to always come back to the initial step in the Road Map to Social Media Success, our goals.

By looking at the data, we can develop an understanding of what is working and, more importantly, what isn’t.

With this insight, we can go back to the drawing board and pivot future initiatives to capitalize on our success and continue implementing those tactics while eliminating the tactics that are less successful.
