Cache Me Outside, How Bout Dat?

Share this:

Have you ever made an edit to your website, and then scratched your head in confusion because your change isn’t appearing? You see your edits in the backend, but they just don’t seem to be appearing.

You might even go the extra mile and hit the refresh button (more than once!), yet you still don’t see your changes. What gives? The answer, more often than not, is something called cache.

Cache exists for a sole purpose, and that purpose is to make websites load faster and appear quick and snappy. Cache is a technique in which your browser stores a copy of a webpage and all of its content, (images, text, etc.), for a certain amount of time. Sometimes that time is a few days, other times it can be several months.

When you come back and visit that same website in the future, it will be loaded from your browser’s cache which is stored locally on your machine. This avoids the extra overhead of reaching out across the internet and downloading everything again, especially since some websites don’t change their content very often.

Now, some good news for you. You can clear out your browser’s cache by following the simple instructions below for your web browser. This should allow you to see your new edits and changes.

Internet Explorer:

  1. Click Tools, and select Delete Browsing History… .
  2. Deselect Preserve Favorites website data, and select Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History.
  3. Click Delete.
