Recruitment Trends to Know for 2020

As we quickly approach one of the busiest months in the hiring calendar, it’s always a good idea to take note of new recruitment trends that are shaping the market. With this in mind, we’ve outlined some of the key areas to be aware of, below.

More Pressure to be Proactive

The national employment rate is still near an all-time high and this means there are more people working than ever before. It also means that fewer people are actively looking for a new job.

Because of this, there’s a lot more pressure to take a proactive approach to recruiting. Today’s candidates might not be actively looking for a job; they’re probably waiting for you to come to them.

The good news is that evolving technology is making this easier to manage. For example, resume databases present you with massive talent pools that you can target in order to fill your clients’ vacancies quickly and effectively.

A Real Focus on Candidate Experience

Further to the above, candidates are continuing to hold the power in the current market. This means that if you aren’t offering a positive experience, you may be ruining your chances of attracting job seekers, and increasing the number of candidates who ghost you before a client is able to extend an offer.

So what does a positive candidate experience look like? Well, communication is a massive factor to consider. Keeping individuals updated on the progress of their application is crucial, and so is providing post-interview feedback; it’s just what today’s candidates expect.

Ultimately, you want them to come away from the experience with a positive perception of you as a staffing professional, and the company you’re hiring for; regardless of whether they got the job or not.

Hiring for Potential

Another key recruitment trend to be aware of in 2020 is the fact that more staffing professionals will look to select candidates on potential as much as experience.

As mentioned above, talent pools are shrinking and hiring professionals are needing to think outside the box when it comes to determining what a qualified candidate looks like.

After all, while an individual might not meet all of your client’s exact criteria today, they might have the potential to tick all the boxes a few months down the line.

Recruiting people who are eager to learn, have a proven track record of adapting to new environments, and who have a whole host of useful transferable skills is a good option right now. You’ll just have to learn how to sell them to the company you’re hiring on behalf of.

Artificial Intelligence Continues to Enhance Recruitment

We know that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has already transformed a number of areas of the hiring process. From taking away the more administrative tasks, to removing the issue of bias; this technology isn’t going away anytime soon.

And, while there will always be concerns around the notion of robots stealing our jobs, we believe that AI will continue to enhance recruitment in 2020.

One of the key areas where it’s working well is job matching. At Resume-Library we’re using machine learning to improve the job matches that candidates receive when searching, and ensure your clients’ vacancies are pushed in front of the right people. The result? More relevant applications and a better user experience all round.

Be Aware of These Recruitment Trends

If you’re looking to boost your hiring efforts in 2020, it’s a good idea to be on top of the latest recruitment trends that are shaping the market. While this is by no means an exhaustive list, these are areas to consider when looking at your overall strategy.
