Good Stuff: Virtual (and Free) Ways to Save Your Sanity During Social Distancing

Coronavirus and recession projections?

You won’t find them in this post. Just good stuff!

This morning, Todd Lewandowski, our Director of Content Marketing, started a slack channel for our team to help us stay connected while we shift to a nearly 100% telecommuting office. Within a few hours, our staff crowdsourced an amazing list of virtual events to stay occupied during this period of social distancing.

Their ideas were too good for me not to share! If you feel the walls closing in, here are a few fun distractions to help preserve your sanity:

Cincinnati Zoo

The Cincinnati Zoo is doing a live broadcast at 3 p.m. every day, featuring one of their animals. You can check it out on their social media pages. They are also putting them on their YouTube Channel.

Here’s a sweet little Brazilian porcupine named Rico:

Planet Fitness: Free Virtual Home “Work-Ins”

With gyms now closed across the nation, Planet Fitness came up with the brilliant idea of bringing the gym home – not just to members, but to anyone with a Facebook account. If you go to Planet Fitness’s Facebook page, you can workout virtually with their trainers anytime. Sessions are short, require little or no equipment, and can be easily modified to match your fitness level.

The Metropolitan Opera: Nightly Opera Streams

The Met is streaming encore performances of some of its most famed shows to the public – completely free! Every night, they’ll offer a different complete operatic performance from their 14-year archive.

Virtual Concerts: John Legend, Coldplay, Katharine McPhee Foster

In-person concerts may have been postponed or canceled, but the show is still going on for these performers. This USA Today article contains performance details and links.

Explore.org Livecams

From nesting hummingbirds to pipeline surfers to blooming sunflower fields, Explore.org has hundreds of livecam feeds from across the globe which transport you (virtually) with a click of the mouse.

Here’s a screenshot from their bald eagle nest feed (looks like someone is keeping watch):
