By day, we’re marketing geeksComputer nerdsQuirky writers and artists. And damn proud of it!

But after hours, our team members shed their marketing capes – and pursue all kinds of cool Hobbies, Interests and Talents (we call them HITs for short).

Here’s what Digital Marketing Advisor Katherine Heffron is into:

HIT: Crafting

Back Story

I grew up decorating cookies with my family every chance I could get, and slowly that branched into all sorts of crafting.

I’ve always been encouraged to make something rather than buy it, so I’m always on the lookout for ways to recreate something with my own spin! One of my favorite quotes about crafting: “Why buy it for $7, when you can make it yourself with $92 worth of craft supplies?

A Different Kind of Challenge

These days – in addition to cookie decorating – I keep coming back to calligraphy, wire wrapping, and most recently sewing.

As a lefty, learning calligraphy has come with its challenges. Most internet tutorials are designed for right-handed people, so learning to push rather than pull across the page has been frustrating! It’s definitely not easy, but the challenge and resulting sense of accomplishment are the whole point.

It’s also a great way to take a break from my screens.

What’s your favorite thing about your HIT?

Homemade cards and gifts are, in my experience, way more meaningful than store-bought. Having the ability to personalize both to your friends’ and family’s liking is a great feeling!
