Yesterday, Facebook released an update on their Facebook Messages interface. The development team at Facebook looked at how people communicate. Some people prefer text messages, some prefer chat, many people “Facebook” their friends and others are tied to email. The new Messages interface aims to tie all of these communication methods together–Facebook messages, chats, SMS (texts) and e-mails will be organized in a central location. So no matter how your friends prefer to communicate it is all organized (and prioritized) in your Facebook account.

So, the question I pose to you is: Will Facebook’s Social Messages feature kill email as we know it?

  1. Great post, Brad. Without a doubt, I think that Facebook has essentially put the final nail in the coffin of email.

I communicate with friends, family, and even catch up with TV shows I miss and news from companies that interest me…all on Facebook.

I’m also pretty active on Twitter, but I think the idea here is that email, in its “pure” form, is completely antiquated for the purpose social interaction.
