The CMO Council’s “State of Marketing 2012″ survey found that senior-level marketers and executives are focused on mobile and social marketing tactics for their 2013 marketing strategies. Here is a breakdown:
So, what does this really mean for staffing firms? Here are my thoughts:
- You need a mobile website.
At Haley Marketing, we track data on over 250 staffing and recruiting websites (the biggest collection of data in the world). Over the last six months mobile traffic has skyrocketed. Visits from mobile devices now account for 10% of total traffic–double what it was at the start of 2012. And this isn’t just general web data, this is traffic to staffing and recruiting websites. If you don’t provide visitors with a good mobile experience they may go to your competitor.
- You probably don’t need a mobile app.
Mobile apps are a hit for some game makers and retail stores. But are they really something that is going keep staffing firms and candidates engaged? The simple truth is that you’ll spend tens of thousands of dollars (or more) creating and marketing your app. Think about how many people are actually going to download it, use it, and keep it. You’re money is probably better spent elsewhere, like on a mobile friendly website, content marketing, social marketing, email marketing, or SEO/SEM.
- You need to be active on social media sites.
Having a great presence on social media sites isn’t a luxury, it’s a cost of doing business (like having a good website). And, social media is impacting search engine ranking results. Search engines look for social queues (# of followers/likes, # of shares, interactions, etc.) as ranking factors. The more popular you and your content are on social media sites, the more potential you have to rank well in search results.
