Search Engines Bing and Google both made huge announcements yesterday in that they have formed partnerships with Twitter and Facebook to make status updates searchable.

On Google’s official blog VP Marissa Mayer stated:

“We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.”

From a Search Engine Optimization standpoint, this makes being aggressive with Social Media essential if you want to get–and stay–at the top of search engine rankings.

  1. All I can say is, it’s about time! Social Media outlets like Twitter are where the up-to-the-second news and information is. It seems obvious that this should be available in search engines.

This change makes using social media a necessity in all companies’ marketing strategy. It’s no longer a fad. It’s time to get on board.
