One Overlooked SEO Optimization Technique that Will Instantly Optimize Your Blog for Search Engines

We know a blog is a big help when it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  But one thing that is commonly overlooked is the URL of each blog post.  On many blogs, each piece of content is given a number.

Example:
http://www.haleymarketing.com/?p=1234

These URLs are called “ugly” permalinks. The number in the URL tells the search engine nothing about the topic.

In order to make your blog post more search engine friendly, you should use “pretty” permalinks. “Pretty” permalinks use information from your blog post to create a unique, SEO friendly URL. For example, a recent Ask Haley blog post about Facebook and Staffing was given this URL:

http://www.haleymarketing.com/2010/08/ask-haley-top-10-reasons-your-staffing-firm-must-have-a-facebook-page/

You can enable “pretty” permalinks within the settings tab of your WordPress blog.  For more information on exactly how to do this, visit: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks.

Overall, the more dynamic the URLs, the better chance you have of people finding your content and website.  If you have any other questions about blogging and or SEO, please contact us today!
