Fortune Magazine just released it’s 2012 Best Companies To Work For list. No surprises that Google once again holds the top spot. Apparently they have Bocce courts at the Googleplex! (I’ll be speaking with David about this as soon as I’m done writing)
As a staffing firm you are in a unique position, not only do you have your internal employees but you also have all of your candidates as well. You really need to create two winning cultures in order to have happy and motivated employees.
My suggestion is to take a look at this list and think about what you would do at your company to crack the Top 10 next year. While you may not have the billions in revenue or the name recognition of Google, that shouldn’t stop you from creating a great culture for your team and candidates.
Here are a few ideas to get you started…
- Business cards for all of your temps. You can buy pre-cut cards that you can run through your printer in the office. They only need enough to hand out to their immediate supervisors. It will make a great impression!
- Free breakfast on Fridays. It can even be as simple as bagels and donuts. Or if you want to take a lesson from our own Matt Faso, you can bring in a Belgian waffle maker.
- Take a lesson from my favorite supermarket, Wegmans, and create a healthcare initiative. Give employees a 15 minute break in the afternoon to go for a walk. Not only will it benefit their health but it can help fight off the afternoon zzzz’s. Have some smokers in your office? Offer incentives to quit. Or sponsor an company wide Biggest Loser competition. We did one here a few years ago and it not only helped us loose weight but was also a lot of fun.
- Host “Lunch n Learn” seminars for your candidates who are not on assignment. Topics can include “writing a perfect resume”, “how to dress for success”, and “how to answer tricky interview questions”. Bonus: if you’re a HaleyMail client you already have access to all of this information in the Resource Center!
We’d love to hear what you come up with!
