The most effective email marketing tactic

There has been a lot of talk lately about Content Marketing.  We’ve addressed the topic a number of times on this very blog:

Content is…still…King!

One of the most effective pieces of content for staffing firms is Top Candidates.  While most of content marketing is intended to enhance your long term relationship with your contacts, Top Candidate mailings are intended to garner an immediate direct response.  For example here is what one of our clients had to say after sending out a recent Top Candidate mailing…

“On Wednesday (3/13) we sent out our first mailing using Haley and received 4 confirmed job orders within 4 hours. In each case one of the 8 candidates was specifically named as the person they would like to have come in for an interview.”

However, while these mailings get a tremendous response I am often surprised at how many grammatical errors I see in Top Candidate mailings.  So while tapping into my family history of school teachers, I wanted to pass along some of the more common errors that I find in Top Candidate descriptions.

  • There is no capitalization when discussing generic presidents or vice-presidents.  If an admin has “assisted the president” there is no need for a capital “p”.

  • When referring to college degrees they are usually lower case (e.g. bachelors degree).  However, it is capitalized when referring to the official degree (e.g. Bachelor of Fine Arts) or when abbreviating the degree (e.g. MBA)

  • While we are on the topic of degrees it is a “associate degree” not “associates degree”.

  • Multitask is one word and not hyphenated.

  • It is accounts receivable not accounts receivables.

  • When speaking of someone’s experience it is 12 years not 12 years’.

  • And there is generally no need to capitalize positions or departments.
