Changes in Social Algorithms Should Motivate, Not Intimidate You

You’ve noticed it on your company social media profiles.

You put together a social update. You proofread it, used one of the top social media tools to create a visual, clicked publish only to notice an hour or two later that the post was seen be an extremely small percentage of your followers, and received little or no likes or comments.

While this drop in overall visibility can be a result of many different factors, one leading cause for concern is the recent update to the way content is displayed in newsfeed.

What do the social platforms themselves have to say about these recent updates?


News Feed will begin to look at both the probability that you would want to see the story at the top of your feed and the probability that you will like, comment on, click or share a story. We will rank stories higher in feed which we think people might take action on, and which people might want to see near the top of their News Feed.

Here’s how it works. You flip on the feature in your settings; then when you open Twitter after being away for a while, the Tweets you’re most likely to care about will appear at the top of your timeline – still recent and in reverse chronological order. The rest of the Tweets will be displayed right underneath, also in reverse chronological order, as always

The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.

Great content will continue to perform well on social media.

The changes to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are working to improve the overall user experience, showing the social user more of the content that they enjoy and react to.

These changes shouldn’t intimidate you, they should motivate you and drive you to create even better…more engaging content!

So what content can you share on social media that will drive engagement? What type of content will people enjoy seeing? Most importantly..what type of content will get you more job orders and more applications?

Regardless of what content you decide to share, select resources, pictures and information that will ultimately benefit the end user. Create a sharing strategy that includes a healthy mix of all types of content and watch your page clicks climb.
