By day, we’re marketing geeks. Computer nerds. Quirky writers and artists. And damn proud of it!
But after hours, our team members shed their marketing capes – and pursue all kinds of cool Hobbies, Interests and Talents (we call them HITs for short).
Here’s what Brad Smith, Haley Marketing’s Director of SEO, is into:
HIT: Winter Sports: Skiing, Snowboarding and Snowmobiling
Back Story
I’ve been skiing for over 30 years – most of my life. I’m thankful that my family fostered my love of the outdoors (and the cold weather) when I was young.
My wife enjoys skiing, too, so it’s something we’ve always done together. And since we’ve become parents, we’ve shared our love for winter sports with our son and daughter. In fact, I got my daughter, Reese, on skis when she was just three years old (that’s a picture of her and her brother, Connor, above)!
I’ve been snowmobiling for decades, too. My wife surprised me with a trailer for our 10 year wedding anniversary, so now we travel all around the area, exploring new trails. It’s really a unique way to see the countryside.
Why do I enjoy winter sports?
Let’s face it – if you’re going to live in the Buffalo area, snow is part of the deal. You can’t beat Mother Nature, so you might as well join her!
It’s amazing to get out and appreciate the beautiful winter scenery instead of being trapped inside. And there’s nothing like the rush of speeding down the side of a mountain, or zipping across a frozen lake at over 100 mph (no speed limits on the ice!).
Snowmobiles are more than just fun…
…they also come in really handy during a major storm. In the winter of 2001 we were hit with a whopping 7’ of snow and everything in the area shut down (except the bars). We spent a few days zipping around the streets on our snowmobiles, snowboarding off roofs and shoveling out neighbors. We went around making sure everyone was okay and digging people out who couldn’t do it on their own.
