Haley Marketing Group recently participated in a team event to help raise money for breast cancer survivors in Western New York. The dragon boat race was a fun day of paddling in 20-man boat on the water in Buffalo, NY. The mission of Hope Chest of Buffalo is to “Paddle with a Purpose” and empower breast cancer survivors through a unique paddling program alongside a health and fitness regime.
Our team was thrilled to participate in this wonderful event and came together on race day as one synchronized unit. Balancing strength, personalities and fitness of all levels can be a challenge when you are all in one boat and not something you can work on in the office. Seated hip to hip and knocking another paddlers’ knuckles with your paddle if you were off-rhythm was both challenging and encouraging to show we could work together outside the office.
This year was our second participating in the event. We encourage our employees to look for events to participate in that promote a healthy lifestyle and instill team comradery while giving back to the community. Events, like the dragon boat race, are not your typical community event. The strength, determination, power, speed and synchronicity to power through the race really tests you mentally and physically and forces you to work together as a unit to succeed.
Participation in this event is something we hope to continue to do annually. The fundraising is a great way for us to give back to our community and support area breast cancer survivors. I was in awe watching the survivors paddle together, all dressed in pink, with the speed and skilled timing of women empowered to lead an active lifestyle and continue to battle and survive breast cancer.
