Search Engine Optimization Techniques: How to Get Your Job Post to Page One of Google Search Results in 20 Minutes

Let me preface this post by saying there is no magic solution that will guarantee you get to the top of Google rankings.  And if anyone tells you there is–they’re lying!

But, there are some best practices you can follow that will help.  Today, I wanted to share an example of how we helped Priority Personnel go from nowhere on Google’s radar to page one.   Here’s what happened:

9:04 am – Our client mentioned they had a few welding jobs available but they were nowhere to be found on Google when someone searched for welding jobs in their town.

9:15 am – We published their original job description on their blog and used some specific SEO elements within that post.  We then ensured that the Priority Personnel website was on Google’s list to index (see Google Site Submissions).

9:25 am – Google indexed this blog page and Priority Personnel’s job listing was #2 in Google listings for “welding jobs in San Marcos”.  They outranked almost every major job board, CraigsList.org and several other very popular websites.

So how were we able to rank so highly after such a short period of time?

Blogs are an extremely powerful and versatile tool for publishing content and getting the attention of search engines.  Blogs allow you to control very specific elements on your page that can have a dramatic effect on search rankings.  Outlined in the photo and description below are several of these key elements that helped us garner such quick ranking results:

  1. Meta Page Title – This is the title that appears in the blue bar of your Internet browser.  It tells both the search engines and site visitors what this particular page on your website is about.  Each page on your site should have a unique page description.  When crafting these descriptions, think about the phrases in which you want to rank highly.
  2. Page URL – When trying to rank highly for a specific term or phrase, you need to include that term in your URL.
  3. Post Title – Think of your page content as an outline.  The search engines look at the title to try to determine what the page is about–include your keywords here!
  4. Inter-site Link with Anchor Text – Instead of the link saying “Click here” use your keywords.
  5. Blog Post Tags – These help to categorize content for both the user and the search engines.  Even better though is that each tag you include creates a new page on your blog with that tag in the URL.  So include not only the keyword phrase you want to rank well for, but also other similar phrases.
