I love stumbling upon links like this one from the “Be Relevant! Email Marketing Blog”. They have put together a list of 50 simple but effective email marketing tips. Not only are the tips great but I also love the way they have presented them in a simple and bold way. A 50 page PDF, one simple tip per page.
I wanted to share a few of the best that I think would be most beneficial to you.
#12 Reach out to people who don’t open or click. This relates to one of my favorite best practices I have heard from our clients. I had a client who started an e-newsletter and a week after their first mailing went out called everyone who didn’t open their newsletter. This was a great chance to make sure people were aware of the newsletter and remind them of the great content. Their efforts paid off as their views and click throughs doubled on their second mailing!
#27 Social media is a great way to grow your email list. It’s such a simple idea yet if I asked my clients if they posted an opt-in message to their Facebook and Twitter pages, 98% would probably say no. Once a month try to add a quick post to your social media pages. “Would you like to receive great employment law updates? Click here…”
#34 The top 300×400 pixels of your email is your most important real estate. Ok, I have to admit, this is one that we are often guilty of not following. Most people use their preview pane to view the top third of emails they receive. Why waste this with fancy pictures. Try using an “In This Issue” box so the recipient knows exactly what is included without having to scroll down.
#35 The first email you send to a new subscriber has the highest open and click rates, make the most of it. Again, I have to admit this is not something that I have encouraged our clients to do enough of. You should have a set “intro” email that is sent to all new subscribers. This email should not only introduce the newsletter but also your company and what makes you so great!
